Founded on a Different Premise
Blackstone & Hart was established in 2008 by Alexander Blackstone and Philippa Hart with a clear purpose: to build a Brisbane law firm that genuinely put client outcomes first — not billing hours, not institutional inertia, and not the conventions of a profession that had, in many ways, lost sight of what it was meant to do.
Both founders had trained and worked at top-tier national firms. They had deep technical skills and experienced environments of exceptional legal quality. But they also saw an opportunity: to offer that same standard of advice in a structure built around personal relationships, commercial pragmatism, and direct access to senior expertise.
Today, Blackstone & Hart is one of Brisbane's most respected boutique legal practices — advising businesses, investors, professionals, and families on their most significant legal and commercial matters. The original premise hasn't changed.

Before founding Blackstone & Hart, he held senior roles at leading national firms in Brisbane and Melbourne. Alex is known for his ability to cut through complexity and provide direct, actionable advice that combines legal rigour with genuine commercial acuity.
Philippa Hart
Philippa is renowned for her meticulous approach to property transactions and estate planning, with particular expertise in complex multi-generational family matters and high-value commercial property. With 15 years of practice in Queensland, she has built a reputation for combining deep technical skill with an unwavering commitment to client outcomes. She leads the firm's property and private client practice.
James Whitfield
James combines forensic attention to detail with a pragmatic, commercially grounded approach to dispute resolution and employment law.
